From October 2004 to March 2005, Lynk Reach worked with 12 primary schools, 3 nursery schools and 3 secondary schools in the London Borough of Newham. Workshops exploring family cultural and historical stories in English and up to 25 other community languages including Lithuanian, Urdu, Bengali, Serbo-croat, Tamil, Somali, Swahili, Wolof, Yoruba, Twi, Portuguese and Arabic took place at these schools. During the project people of all ages from a diversity of communities were able to share their cultural heritage through languages and stories. Languages and cultural traditions were brought to life through the arts such as drama, dance, poetry, storytelling, visual arts and music.

We have produced a vibrant publication with an array of wonderful stories in a range of languages, a DVD of the project and a resource pack for teachers with a CD. The 'Now We Are Talking!' publication is available from schools and libraries in Newham. In addition there is a resource pack for teachers available in two parts which can be downloaded from the bottom of the article below.
