2008 Awards from The Jack Petchey Foundation

Members of Lynk Reach staff and young friends of Lynk Reach have won a number of Golden JPF Awards 2008 over the past six months.
 
January's award was won by SLAM alumni Louis Antwi, for Senior Poetry SLAM event organisation and co-ordination, whilst Bismark Anobah was February's winner for filming and editing young people's points of views about identity and heritage.

Laura Gisby won the March award, for developing communication with the press and media skills and disseminating these to young people. Miriam McKenzie won the award in April, for dance workshops, choreography and costume design.

Harry McMillan was May's winner, for learning to communicate in Panjabi – a language new to him - and performing in an intergenerational drama price with confidence as a younger member, whilst Leanne Gustov won the June award, for volunteering to support her peers at poetry performance events.

Finally, Sophia Hussain won a Leaders Award, for working creatively with young people especially young girls on a range of projects to do with identity and heritage including designing and creating costumes for performances with them.

2008 London Teenage Poetry SLAM

We anticipate the JPF will sponser the 2008 London Teenage Poetry SLAM, for £15.500 for the third year.

Auschwitz Trip Sponsorship

Thanks to Jack Petchey Foundation Sponsorship for £4,950 which contributed towards the half the cost of 33 young people under the age of 25, for the trip to Auschwitz, on 7 November 2007. All the young people secured the balance of the cost with their families, schools and communities support. The party consisted of 200 people (intergenerational and inter-faith).

Inspiring young people from South Asian Speaking communities to engage in Panjabi Classic Literature and Theatre and raising Achievement. Award used to co-ordinate and run workshops and rehearse for showcasing Heer Ranjha at the Victoria and Albert Museum on 29 April.

Silver Awards:

Usman Hussain  £300 
For filming/DVD for Heer Ranjha Group.

Noreen Akhtar £300
For costume designing for Heer Ranjha Group performance at V&A Museum on 29 April 2007.

Reece Cadette £300
For running dance workshops for performance at Islington Youth Achievement Awards at The Rocket in Holloway on 3 May 2007.

Asma Sultana £300
Used the award for singing classes for the Sahaliaan group and to purchase a sound system.
